The paper examines the adequacy of the way in which, during a judicial procedure, child victims and witnesses are accepted, supported and questioned so that they maximise their developmental capacities and provide reliable testimony. The purpose of the paper is to, by critically analysing the state of theory and research, extract and demonstrate legally established, developmentally sensitive and empirically demonstrated effective models, protocols and methodology of forensic interviewing of child victims and witnesses, which are based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The paper considers the following questions: (a) definitions, development and characteristics of forensic interviewing of children (b) capacities (limitations and potentials) of a child to provide credible and reliable testimony; (c) models, protocols and core phases of forensic interview with the child; (d) validated effective methodologies of interviewing children; (e)interviewer’s role, competencies and training, as well as (f) open-ended questions, needs and directions of further improvements of theory and practice of child forensic interviewingen_US
