The statistics in this report were developed from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), which annually collects information on nonfatal victimizations against persons age 12 or older, reported and not reported to the police, from a nationally representative sample of U.S. households. This report focuses on children living in households in which at least one member age 12 or older was the victim of a nonfatal violent crime during a given year.
