While the connection between childhood spanking and adult interest in pain, bondage or flagellation has been argued theoretically and is supported by some clinical case evidence, we have not been able to locate research that tested this proposition in a segment of the general population. This chapter makes a start on filling that gap in knowledge. It is only a start, however, because it is very difficult to establish a cause-and-effect relationship between spanking and certain adult behavior, such as masochistic sex. (Author Text)en_US
