We used research to identify outcomes and components of successful VCoP. Theoretical frameworks and practice recommendations have been developed by scholars and practitioners to conceptualize how CoP and VCoP can be designed and implemented (e.g., Wenger et al., 2002). To identify key outcomes of interest reported in the literature, we focused on research studies and the factors influencing the outcomes. Study findings were synthesized to describe components of VCoP that may be associated with positive outcomes and results suggesting strategies useful to strengthen functioning and increase the likelihood of success of VCoP.en_US
