This study examines the impacts of two crucial facets of nonprofit organizations on advocacy: processes of governance, such as board activity; and organizational structure, such as staff and budget size, age, and membership. The study incorporates a nationwide survey of state nonprofit associations that are registered with the National Council of Nonprofits, interviews with leaders in these organizations, and a case study of an association influential in the policy arena.
