Still, many sources of error in children's testimony can be traced to factors seemingly beyond interviewers' control—including individual differences in memory and cognition (e.g., executive function), preinterview exposure to suggestibility (e.g., through parents or peers), and deception (e.g., coaching). An understanding of these factors can be helpful when planning interviews, testing alternative explanations for children's statements, and evaluating the reliability of children's testimony.
