The two phenomena often occur in the same individual, the theoretical models used to explain them are similar, and the treatments provided to deal with them overlap considerably. Although these commonalities suggest that these two groups of children may share certain needs, past studies have often dealt with the two groups separately. For example, in order to refer children to treatments appropriate for their psychosocial profiles, various typologies have been proposed, but always either for children with SBPs or for children who had been sexually abused, rather than for both. In this study, using a sample comprising both children who had been referred for SBPs and children who had been referred for having been sexually abused, we attempted to determine whether any particular psychosocial profiles could be identified among children from these two groups and, if so, whether any of these profiles was associated more with one than with the other.
