Abstract

This book chapter summarizes research and presents a coherent explication of the long term psychological effects and social problems resulting from childhood corporal punishment. It builds upon evidence that corporal punishment increases the probability of violent behavior in later life, and investigates the relationship between the amount of corporal punishment experienced with psychological ill effects, notably depression and suicidal ideation as an adult.
